Chewing the Cud, draws inspiration from Charlotte Perkins Gilman's "The Yellow Wallpaper" and feminist horror cinema.

Using vintage bedsheets, stitched, cut, and suspended into thick quilts, the installation transforms domestic textiles into an immersive environment shaped by psychological confinement and emotional anguish. Stills of women in the midst of mental breakdowns are printed onto bedsheets from the era in which each film was made, drawing connections between literary and cinematic portrayals of women navigating depression, invalidation, and trauma.

The exhibition's title references both the biological process of chewing cud and the psychological phenomenon of rumination-the repetitive cycle of intrusive thoughts often associated with depression and anxiety.

Through embroidery, I transforms confession, prayer, and emotional release into acts of labor and repair. Soft floral quilts and inherited textiles evoke comfort and familiarity while simultaneously withholding them, creating a liminal domestic space where care and psychological distress coexist.
